VIJAYAWADA: Addressing engineering graduates, Minister for IT, rural development and Panchayat Raj Nara Lokesh, emphasised the need for designing affordable devices and structures for the common man’s benefit, and said Amaravati should stand out as the most creative centre in the world.

During the inauguration of a two-day International Conference on Transformations in Engineering Education, which was jointly organised by APSSDC and IUCEE along with SRM University Amaravati on Monday, he advised the engineering students to develop their innovative skills and become an employment provider rather than being a job seeker. Addressing the gathering, the minister said over 35 per cent of the workforce would be filled by the many young experts living in India.

However, expressing his agony over the lack of employable engineering graduates, he said that only 15 per cent of the total graduates were skilled. Transformation of engineering courses was the need of the hour, he said. The minister further said, “State government is achieving good results with the use of technology, particularly in agriculture. Though rainfall was lower by 14 per cent last year in the state, the growth of agriculture stood at 24 per cent. Drones are also being used to assess the quality of road constructions in the state.”

Dr TR Parivendhar, Founder Chancellor of SRM University, said that his group of institutions, which would be recognised widely in Andhra soon, is known for its infrastructure.“Our students have the best facilities. We are reaching out to top institutions across the world for providing better opportunities to our students,” he said.

“Soon, in Amaravati, Rolls Royce corporate research centre will come up to benefit them. We have given complete freedom to the students, they are driven by their passion to achieve their dreams,” he added.
