VIJAYAWADA: South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav has said that Tirupati station redevelopment plan is under implementation at an estimated cost of `400 crore and bids have already been invited for the same.

On Monday, Yadav convened a meeting with Neerabh Kumar Prasad, Special Chief Secretary for Transport, Roads and Buildings at the Interim Government Complex (IGC) in Velagapudi. During the meeting, the SCR GM highlighted the conceptual modernisation plan envisaged for the redevelopment of Tirupati Railway Station.

He comprehensively discussed the progress of ongoing and new railway projects in the State during the meeting. Works related to the new rail line, electrification, station redevelopment, cost sharing of railway projects, elimination of unmanned level crossings (UMLCs), construction of road overbridges (RoBs)/road under bridges (RuBs) across the State.

The SCR GM briefed the officials on the priority being accorded to the rail infrastructure works in the State and the budgetary allocations being extended for the purpose. Plans are afoot for the redevelopment of Nellore Railway Station, he informed. Commenting on the progress of Nadikudi-Srikalahasti new railway line works, Yadav said the Piduguralla-Rompicherla section to a length of around 46 km would be completed in 2018-19.

Earlier during the day, the general manager visited electric traction training centre in Vijayawada and inaugurated the newly-constructed hostel meant for trainees. He observed the functioning of latest locomotive model (WAG 7) at ETTC, which highlights the troubleshooting areas, the first-of-its-kind facility for trainees on Indian Railways.

He also visited the Divisional Integrated Training Centre (DITC) and inaugurated the air-conditioned dining hall at the Railway Institute, Satyanarayanapuram which is popularly utilised by the railway employees for various functions. The General Manager also met Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar, Special Chief Secretary Satish Chandra and others during his visit.
