VIJAYAWADA: NEET UG aspirants in the State are anxiously waiting for the High Court hearing on implementation of G.O. 550, on Tuesday.In the last hearing, the court had directed the NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) to prepare a list with details of candidates who had secured admissions in medical colleges under open and reserved categories, their marks and ranks.
As the second phase of counselling is put on hold, a large number of aspirants are planning to secure admissions in medical colleges of other states. Meanwhile, the officials of NTRUHS have prepared a list with detailed information as was asked by the Hyderabad High Court. It includes details of admission in the last two years and the current year’s counselling process.
Speaking to TNIE, NTRUHS Registrar S Appala Naidu said, “We are asking the court to lift the stay order on G.O. 550. We will provide the court with details of meritorious students who secured admissions in reserved category and the candidates who secured the seats as per G.O. 550.”
The government order on seat allotment in engineering and other professional courses was issued on July 30, 2001. It had then stated that the open category seats were to be filled first on merit basis, irrespective of the reservation category. It was only then the reserved seats should be filled as per the reservation norms.
The then government also said that if a reserved candidate secured a seat in the open category on merit basis and leave it for the reserved quota seat, then the vacant position has to be filled by a candidate from the same reserved category on merit basis.
Taking into consideration the judgement of Supreme Court in the Union of India VS Ramesh Ram case, a division bench of the Hyderabad High Court stayed implementation of para 5(2) of G.O. 550.
The High Court had issued a stay order on August 30, 2017 and directed the AP principal secretary to medical and health, vice-chairman of NTRUHS and other officials concerned to file counter affidavits by September 17, 2017. As many as 49,253 candidates appeared for NEET 2018 and 35,732 qualified for the test.
