VIJAYAWADA:  The  Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) has initiated certain measures to stop the sale of old syllabus textbooks apart from making arrangements for supply of new syllabus books. The officials instructed the publishers to take back the old stocks from bookstores with immediate effect. Responding to this, the board officials instructed all the publishers on Thursday to take back the old stocks of Intermediate first year textbooks from bookstores.

In Fact, the new textbooks of first year Intermediate course were released recently by the BIE officials. But they are not available at the bookstores as they are in short supply. The BIE placed an indent for over 5.5 lakh textbookss and got them printed and supplied the same across the State. However, the officials say that they do not have any control over the sale of textbooks at  retail stores so they cannot take any action in this regard.

Speaking to Express, P Muralidhar, Joint Secretary (Examinations), said, “Today, we called all the publishers and asked them to take back the old syllabus books from the market. The new topics that were introduced are very essential as they help students to excel in various examinations. Soon, we shall hold a meeting with publishers.”
