Claiming abuse, woman makes suicide bid; police call it ‘drama’

She consumed pesticide stating financiers assaulted her demanding repayment of loan.

VIJAYAWADA: In an alleged case of call money finance operators harassing people, a woman attempted suicide claiming that a financier abused her demanding repayment of money, which she said was already paid. The woman consumed pesticide to end her life and is being treated.

Though the suicide bid took place on Tuesday night, the issue came to light on Wednesday when the woman’s family lodged a complaint against the financier at Two-Town police station accusing him of harassing her in the name of call money. A case under sections 384, 509 r/w 34 of IPC was registered against the financier.

In her complaint, Pasupalli Padma (38) of Kothapet said she took `2 lakh as loan from Bayyarapu Srinivasa Rao and repaid it some months ago. Despite clearing his `2 lakh debt, the lender did not give empty cheques and promissory notes pledged by her. Moreover, the financier allegedly claimed that she had to pay back `3 lakh.

The financier approached court and got a property attachment order stating the payment was yet to be made. The woman said the financier served the court notices on Tuesday night and abused her. Upset with this, the woman attempted suicide by consuming pesticide.

Padma’s son said: “Financier Bayyarapu Srinivas, along with his friend, Akula Yugandhar came to our house on Tuesday evening and attacked us. When we demanded justice, they abused us in filthy language. Felt dejected, my mother tried to commit suicide. Strict action should be taken against them for harassing us.”

However, Two-Town police said Padma was not concerned with the case and “intentionally created suicide drama” to help his husband Pasupuleti Sanjeeva Rao. They said that Padma was the second wife of Sanjeeva Rao, who had taken `15 lakh as loan from Srinivas Rao and Akula Yugandhar in November 2017 and failed to repay the money. When the financiers demanded Sanjeeva Rao to repay the amount, his wife intervened and threatened them of filing a harassment case against them, the police added.

With no option left, the financiers filed a petition at the Metropolitan court and obtained a property attachment order. “When the court staff served notices on Sanjeeva Rao on Tuesday, Padma attempted suicide to stop attaching their property and made accusations against us to gain sympathy. We have proof that Sanjeeva Rao took money from us,” claimed the financiers in their counter complaint.
