VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has appealed to the Centre to take necessary action for establishing an integrated steel plant in Kadapa as assured in the AP Reorganisation Act. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister urged the Centre to file a revised affidavit in the Supreme Court considering the latest feasibility report being furnished by MECON.

Referring to the affidavit filed by the Centre in the Supreme Court recently, Naidu, in the letter, said, “It is learnt that the Ministry of Steel has filed an affidavit in the Apex Court stating that the project is not economically feasible. It appears that the said affidavit was filed based on the initial report of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).

This news has aroused the feelings and emotions of the people of AP in general and those from Kadapa district in particular. The project, if materialised, will help make the backward Rayalaseema region economically prosperous.’’ He said that it is the statutory duty of the Centre to fulfil the assurance in the Act that SAIL shall examine feasibility of establishing steel plant in Kadapa within six months.
