Vijayawada Police Commissioner Gautam Sawang inaugurates CCTV monitoring system

Under the project, 7,700 CCTV cameras were installed at various places so far in the city and another 2,000 cameras will be installed soon.

VIJAYAWADA: Commissioner of Police Gautam Sawang inaugurated CCTV monitoring system as part of the e-Nethra at Governorpet police station here on Sunday. He thanked traders and the public for supporting the initiative by installing cameras at establishments and public places.

The “e-Nethra - A Digital Eye”, is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative taken up by the  Vijayawada city police in 2016 to create a safe and secure environment for citizens especially vulnerable sections and generating post-incident evidence with high-resolution video footages.

Under the project, 7,700 CCTV cameras were installed at various places so far in the city and another 2,000 cameras will be installed soon.

Addressing the media on the occasion, Gautam Sawang said all activities in Besant Road, Rajagopalachari Street and Hanumanpet under the Governorpet police station limits will be monitored from the police station itself with the help of 178 cameras installed in those locations. “These days, CCTV footage has become a crucial evidence in cracking cases. Be it a robbery or a murder case, the third eye helps crack cases in quick time,” he said.

Sawang also explained to the public the need for installing CCTV cameras for personal safety and it is a must for traders under the AP Public Security Act -2013.

“Intelligent traffic regulation, management and enforcement enhancing prevention, detection and speedy recovery of property offenses is the next thing coming in Vijayawada,” he said.

Also, Sawang felicitated representatives of internet provider (ACT) and the technical team for extending their selfless support to ‘Safe Vijayawada’ concept. Traders expressed their happiness as the new initiative act as a deterrence to criminals.
