VIJAYAWADA: Two engineering graduates have been accused of raping their classmate at Potavarappadu village in Agiripalli mandal and filming the act. The incident which took place in February 2017, when the girl was in her final year of B.Tech, came to light on Friday when the 21-year-old’s father lodged a complaint with the Agiripalli Police after another classmate started blackmailing the girl with the video recorded by the accused.

According to police, the girl’s classmates Siva Reddy and Krishna Vamsi invited her to a hotel for a birthday party. When the girl arrived, they offered her spiked drinks. When she fell unconscious, they allegedly raped her. The two then started harassing her by threatening to leak the video. The police added that the college management “intervened immediately and settled the matter” by getting the video deleted.

“The girl finished her course a couple of months ago. However, another classmate, D Praveen, started blackmailing her asking for sexual favours, saying that he possessed a copy of the video and would upload it on websites if she did not comply. The girl informed this to her father, who in turn lodged a complaint,” the police said.  Hanuman Junction circle inspector YVL Naidu, under whose jurisdiction Agiripalli police station falls, said a case had been registered under IPC Sections 376 (d) and 354 (a).
