CWC to send DPR-2 of Polavaram to tech panel

The cost escalation committee of the CWC reportedly discussed all the submissions made by the State government supporting the drastic escalation of the project cost.

VIJAYAWADA: The Central Water Commission (CWC) has reportedly decided to send revised cost estimates or detailed project report (DPR) -2 of the Polavaram project to its technical advisory committee for approval in the third week of July. Sources in the Water Resources Department said that once the technical committee approves it, the DPR-2, which pegged the cost of the national project at Rs 57,940 crore, will be forwarded to the financial advisory committee.

At a meeting conducted in New Delhi on Friday, the cost escalation committee of the CWC reportedly discussed all the submissions made by the State government supporting the drastic escalation of the project cost. 

“The CWC has decided to prepare a report on the project to expedite the approval of DPR-2. After the technical advisory committee approves it, the DPR-2 will be sent to the financial advisory committee. If the financial advisory committee okays it,   DPR-2 will be sent to Union cabinet for final approval,” a senior official said.
