53 persons booked for drunk driving in Vijayawada
VIJAYAWADA: Traffic police caught 53 persons, between 10 am and 1 am, for drunken driving on Saturday. Around 500 vehicles were checked during the drive at Sitara Junction. Cops said that drivers of 49 two-wheelers, one car and two autorickshaws were found to be under the influence of alcohol and their vehicles were impounded to Bhavanipuram police station.
West Zone Traffic ACP T Murali Krishna said that Bhavanipuram is slowly turning dangerous with heavy vehicles passing through the tunnel to reach Hyderabad highway at Gollapudi junction. He also said there is an increase in road accident cases in Bhavanipuram.
“We conducted the drive to reduce accidents and check driving under the influence. Sitara junction is a key point where a number of accidents take place,” he said.
He further said similar drives would be conducted across West Zone. Traffic inspectors R Rajendra Prasad, K Mahendra, Krishnamohan and SIs Murali, Srinu, Mohan Rao and other staff participated in the drive.
