VIJAYAWADA:  Amaravati Development Corporation Limited (ADCL) managing director Lakshmi Parthasarathy, along with Municipal Commissioner J Nivas, inspected the canal beautification project, being implemented at the Ryves Canal bund near Sambamurthy Road here, on Wednesday.A week ago, the VMC had launched a massive campaign to clean the Ryves, Bandar and Eluru canals - the three irrigation canals running through the city -  parts of which were choked with plastic and other wastes. Nivas informed Lakshmi Parthasarathy that the current clean-up work was executed by 500 sanitation staff. They also conducted anti-larval operation to check the mosquito menace, he said and added that the civic body did provide required equipment to clear the waste and vehicles to transport the wastes to various locations.

The ADCL MD lauded the work of the officials concerned, who launched the massive cleaning drive in the canals and the beautification project at the bund. Lakshmi Parasarthy also said that necessary financial support would be taken from the State government if the VMC was ready to expand the cleanliness campaign across the city. She also instructed the officials to accord top priority to monitor the greenery developed at the canal bunds.
