VIJAYAWADA:  Setting an example for other residential welfare associations, residents of New P&T Colony in Patamata, have installed a CCTV system in their area and the city police chief inaugurated it on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, Gautam Sawang, Commissioner of Police, said that such initiatives of self-policing taken up by the residents were welcome and every colony should follow in the footsteps of New P&T Colony.

“When residents are alert and aware, it will help us serve them better. However, care must be taken to ensure proper maintenance of the equipment. Technology would help to trace the criminals, if untoward incidents took place and the evidence would become part of the investigation,” he said. Sawang visited the monitoring room set up at the park in the colony and gave some suggestions to the maintenance team. In all, 50 CCTV cameras have been installed to cover all the streets and parks in the colony that has more than 200 houses. After the inauguration, members of the residential welfare association of New P&T Colony felicitated Sawang for extending support.
