VIJAYAWADA:   An elderly woman was brutally murdered by unidentified assailants in her apartment here on Friday. The assailants decamped with eight sovereign gold from the house, which comes under Ajit Singh Nagar police station limits. The incident came to light after the deceased woman’s son noticed her lying in a pool of blood on Saturday. The police said that the woman, identified as Peram Nagamani (60), was living alone in the house after the demise of her husband. She had recently bought the house at New Rajarajeswararao Pet and it is believed that she was suffering from kidney-related ailments.

On Friday, Nagamani went to his son’s house, who is residing at Lotus Landmark in Kedareswara Rao Pet, and returned home at around 1 pm. With no response to his repeated phone calls later, her son went to check on her the next morning only to find her dead. The body was moved to a government hospital for autopsy. “There were injuries on Nagamani’s face which clearly indicates that she was beaten up by the assailants during the scuffle,” the police said.
