Four robbers held; ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh recovered

The four accused, identified as  Balagam Nagaraju, Shaik Siraj, Pinnama Raju and Prashanth Varma, were found roaming in a suspicious manner at the city railway station and taken into custody.  

RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: Machilipatnam arrested four members of an inter-district robbery gang and recovered gold ornaments worth around Rs 10 lakh on Tuesday.

The four accused, identified as  Balagam Nagaraju, Shaik Siraj, Pinnama Raju and Prashanth Varma, were found roaming in a suspicious manner at the city railway station and taken into custody.  During interrogation, the accused confessed to their crimes. Krishna district Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarvasresta Tripati in a press conference said the accused were arrested with the help of ‘Finger and hand live scanner (FHLS)’ powered by Papillon live scanner technology.

The four accused committed a crime a month ago in Machilipatnam and robbed gold ornaments from a 90-year-old woman Ch Mahalakshmamma. They also committed similar crimes in neighbouring villages of Machilipatnam town.

“Based on the victims’ complaints, we formed special teams and arrested the accused. The four-member gang committed more than 10 crimes in East Godavari, West Godavari and Krishna,” the SP said.
