VIJAYAWADA: Panic gripped Durgapuram when seven persons, armed with weapons, barged into a house and took away valuables from a couple in broad daylight here on Thursday. According to Suryaraopet police, the incident took place around 11 am when one of the burglars Bora Ramesh (30), barged into a house for robbing gold jewellery.

He threatened Usha Rani, house inmate, that he would slit her throat if she tried to resist or raise the alarm. However, the house inmate started screaming in fear.Alerted by the couple’s plea for help, the neighbours rushed to the spot and managed to overpower two of the robbers and handed them over to the police.

Cops said that around seven persons including Ramesh might have been involved in the crime. Ramesh was shifted to Suryaraopet police station for interrogation. Later, he was handed over to Central Crime Station (CCS).The police registered a case under Section 390 (Robbery) against Ramesh and six others and took up investigation.

Neighbours come to the rescue

Alerted by the couple’s plea for help, the neighbours rushed to the spot and managed to overpower two of the robbers and handed them over to the police.
