VIJAYAWADA: A man from Krishna district beat his mother to death with a stick when the latter objected to his demand of selling their land at A Seetharamapuram village of Bapulapadu Mandal.
According to the police, the accused, Gajjala Nagaraju (34), who works as a contract employee at a private company in Gannavaram, asked his 55-year-old mother Gajjala Raghavamma to sell the land that belonged to them in order clear his debts on Saturday.
“When she bluntly rejected his proposal, he beat Raghavamma with a stick, injuring her grievously. She was then rushed to hospital with the help of locals,” the local police said, adding that Nagaraju was an alcoholic too.
Raghavamma succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Pinnamaneni Siddhartha General Hospital in Chinna Avutapalli on Sunday and a case of murder under Section 302 of IPC was registered against the accused.
He was taken into custody following a complaint lodged by his sister.
