Crime has come down in Vijayawada railway zone: Railway Protection Force

VIJAYAWADA: South Central Railway (SCR), principal chief security commissioner and Railway Protection Force (RPF) IG GM Eswara Rao visited Vijayawada Railway Station on Tuesday and said they have observed a 50 per cent reduction in crime in Vijayawada Railway Division for the past one year.

Addressing media persons, Rao said that RPF personnel rescued more than 200 children from flesh trade from January to October. He also said the overall theft cases have been reduced by 25 per cent this year compared to the previous year. He also explained that there are around six organised North Indian gangs that are operating in the zone. “So far, 122 theft cases have been filed and property worth Rs 2.21 crore has been recovered. We are especially worried about e-touting. In a recent raid, more than 200 tickets were found to purchased from touts. We will cancel the tickets purchased from illegal agents,” he said. 

In terms of enforcement under Railway Act, officials booked 21,880 cases in Vijayawada Railway Division and collected around Rs 44 lakh as penalty. Under unlawful possession of gold or other goods that come under Railway Property Act, the police have booked 212 cases, arrested 219 people and recovered `39 lakh from them. With the help of Government Railway Police and the local police, we are looking forward to creating a national database,” he said.
