A new direction and aim in thinking

Health-related queries will be answered by psychotherapist A Geethan

I am a Class IX student. The problem I face is tension. I become tensed and tend to forget things. Because of this, I’m not able to participate in stage programs. I don’t want this to affect my studies. Please help.

Do not get scared of your own tension. Whenever you are tense, remember there is an energy release in you. Learn to handle that energy by using that as a stimulus to focus on your goals. Also, become aware of your sentence structure and its impact and influence on your stress.

You have mentioned, “I don’t want this (tension — unable to participate in stage shows and forgetting things) to affect your studies. The first step to deal with your tension is to convert “Don’t want” thinking pattern to “want to” thinking design. When you think in terms of “don’t want”, it does not help your brain to get a clear direction. This can lead to confusion and tension.

Hence, the focus for you has to be: “I want to be able to study well, I want to participate in stage shows”. This want to thinking will give you a direction and an aim. Then convert this ‘I want to to ‘I will statement. Eg: I will do well in studies and I will participate in stage performances. The ‘I will’ statement will give you a sense of power to handle your tension and you will be able to use your energy to transform your wishes into reality.
