As the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is around the corner, aspirants are gearing up for preparations.  They should focus on building a strong and solid foundation of scientific and technical knowledge.

The candidates applying for the exam should start preparations from grade XI onwards in order to master the comprehensive skills and it is imperative to work on your accuracy and gain speed to make it to the top.

For JEE 2017, a student must qualify in the JEE (Main) exam with a good score. Unlike previous years, this year, the Union Ministry of Human Resources declared that the  grade XII marks will not determine the rankings in JEE to secure admission in engineering undergraduate courses and will only be considered a crucial parameter for determining the eligibility criteria for the exam.

Some of the exam strategies a student can adopt to attain success are:
A well-prepared subject-wise chart: A student can do well in the JEE (Main) exam, if he/she has a thorough understanding of concepts.

However, for JEE (Advanced), comprehension, reasoning and analytical skills are required as well to solve problems. Students should give ample importance to three subjects – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics – and get the fundamentals right in grade XI and XII itself.

Start early: A student keen to crack the JEE exam, should start early preparation, preferably from grade XI onwards. Right from the beginning, a student should put in adequate effort to prepare for the exam. Apart from an early start, the basics and fundamentals should be strong enough to crack an easy or difficult question.

Know about the exam: Before starting your preparations, it is essential to understand the format of the exam, type of questions, level of difficulty, marking pattern, eligibility, syllabus etc. This will help you to have a focussed approach towards the exam.

Coaching classes: With cut-throat competition, enrolling for coaching classes can help a student gain the desired guidance and master tricks to crack the competitive exam. However, before joining a centre, students must analyse various factors like which institute provides the right environment, adequate training, the quality of faculty etc, to crack the exam.

Time management: The time duration for the exam is three hours with multiple choice questions and negative marking. Managing time and speed is very important, which one can master with practice.
Track progress: You need to periodically solve mock test papers and monitor your progress. This will help you identify your weak areas and concentrate on improving your speed and accuracy.
