Chhattisgarh election: Maoist encounter at Bijapur, two Cobra men injured

Earlier in the day, the Maoists detonated a blast in Dantewada, which was far away from the polling station in an attempt to create terror.

RAIPUR: Two personnel of elite Cobra battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were injured in a gunfight with the naxalites at Pamed, cited as Maoist epicentre, in Bijapur district, about 400 km south of Raipur.

According to the Bijapur police a team of Cobra were on out on area domination when the Maoists opened fire on the troopers. The attack was retaliated by the forces. “In an exchange of fire one assistant sub-inspector and a constable sustained injuries and the efforts are on to evacuate them to safety. The forces are still inside the forest”, the police said.

Additional forces have been rushed to the area and operation further intensified. The first phase of polling in on at Bijapur along with the 18 other Assembly
constituencies.
