Eight per cent rise in Madhya Pradesh’s voter population compared to 2013, says poll body

BHOPAL: Over 5.04 lakh voters are eligible to vote in the November 28 Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, which is over 8% more than those eligible in the 2013 elections, the state’s Chief Electoral Officer said on Monday.

“The work of updating the final list of voters for the Assembly election was completed on November 9, after which a total of 5,04,95,251 voters are eligible to vote on November 28 polls for electing legislators from 230 seats,” said Chief Executive Officer (CEO-MP) VL Kantha Rao on Monday.

Of the total, as many as 5,04,33,079 voters reside in the state, while 62,172 are service voters living outside the state. A total of 2,63,01,300 voters are male, while 2,41,30,390 are women.  
He added that when the voters list was being updated between September 27 and October 30, as many as 20,433 double entries (duplicate voters) were detected.

The total seizure of unaccounted cash, jewellery, illicit liquor, narcotic drugs and other things also shot up from last time, according to Rao. Seizures worth `49 crore were made across the state between October 6 and November 10 in 2018 while the amount stood at `27.61 crore in the 2013 elections. 
The seizures for this year included unaccounted cash worth around `20.59 crore, unaccounted gold-silver and other precious jewellery worth over `7.43 crore, around 4 lakh litre illicit liquor worth over `9.57 crore and narcotics worth over `5.45 crore..

According to Rao, the list of candidates will be finalised after the last date of withdrawal of nominations, which is November 14. Once the final list is declared, government employees will have to give declarations if they are related to any candidate.
