JAIPUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was quick to retaliate to Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on Tuesday about the former’s invocation of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ in every speech. At another rally, the PM also said that Kartarpur was in Pakistan because of the Congress at the time.

“The Congress’ ‘naamdaar’ has declared a ‘fatwa’ that Modi should not start his speeches by saluting the motherland. I have destroyed the ‘fatwa’ in front of lakhs of people here by making everyone chant ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ 10 times. Who are you to ask the sons of India to not chant ‘Bharat mata ki jai’?” Modi said at a rally in Sikar.

“I don’t know what ‘Bharat mata’ means to you , it is your decision. For us, it is everything. But I want to tell the Congress’s ‘naamdaar’  that you are the party president of an old party of India. It doesn’t suit you to oppose the chanting...” Modi exclaimed.

Earlier, while speaking in Hanuman district, which shares a border with Pakistan, Modi blamed the Congress rule in 1947 for Kartarpur becoming a part of Pakistan. The Central government recently cleared the proposal for a corridor which pilgrims can use to visit the gurdwara in Kartarpur, which is believed to be the resting place for Guru Nanak.

“When India was partitioned in 1947, Congress was greedy to sit on the throne.  Muslims wanted a different country in the name of Islam. The mistakes were made by the policymakers. The result is that the land of Guru Nanak went to Pakistan. If Kartarpur corridor exists today, its credit goes to the people of the country,” he said.
