HYDERABAD: TRS leader KT Rama Rao slammed the Congress for its late-night announcement of candidates, calling it an act to protect the doors of Gandhi Bhavan from breaking. Rao, who is spearheading the TRS party campaign also criticised the “inability” of the grand old party in governing the State as it allegedly hasn’t yet finalised a seat-sharing agreement.

It is interesting to note that Rama Rao’s own party, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, was having rebel trouble of its own while he was speaking at this meeting on Tuesday.
“The candidates’ name was announced late in the night as the party anticipated fighting among the candidates. They (Congress leaders) know that the doors of their homes and Gandhi Bhavan will be broken by angry leaders post seat sharing,” said Rama Rao while addressing a poll meeting widely attended by persons with disabilities (PWDs).

He sarcastically referred to the scenario prevailing at Gandhi Bhavan to Gandhi hospital. “I have been seeing the pictures from Gandhi Bhavan. People are taking saline bottles while protesting for days, in hope of party ticket. For a second I thought if it was Gandhi hospital or Gandhi Bhavan,” Rao quipped while the audience burst in laughter.

He went on to question the ability of the Congress-led alliance which was unable to sort seat sharing activity. “How can a party govern when it is unable to share seats among its candidates,” Rao said.

Sops to persons with disabilities
The pink party had already announced to increase the amount disbursed for PWDs to `3,000 from `1,500. Rao compared his party’s scheme to that of the Congress. “The Congress party did not give more than `500 is the past, but has announced `2000 as assistance. It is TRS’ victory that Congress was forced to increase this amount,” he said.  He listed out a series of GOs and schemes launched for PWD’s while maintaining that “a lot of development is yet to be provided.”
