Telangana elections: Khammam to see its first woman candidate

KHAMMAM: She is new to the electoral politics, but was born in a political family. Thus, she neither lacks in knowledge nor is she afraid of taking on the heavyweights. Dr Uppala Sarada, contesting on a BJP ticket, is the first woman candidate of Khammam constituency, where she will take on the veteran TDP leader Nama Nageswara Rao and equally experienced Puvvada Ajay Kumar of TRS. A native of Bhadrachalam, Sarada is not overawed by her opposition. In fact, she sounds confident to emerge as a winner.

Speaking to Express during one of her campaign tours, she said: “People have been welcoming me in a big way and they have been giving assurance that they will vote for me.”Sarada, who is also known for her social service activities, has the backing of saffron party’s top leaders Bandaru Dattatreya and Kishan Reddy. And more importantly, local leaders, as well as women, have been coming out in large numbers to support her door-to-door campaigns. Boosted by the fact that voters of the vaisya community will support her, Sarada is optimistic about winning.
