'Would love to sing with Yagnikji'

Rahul Vaidya of Indian Idol fame is back in the spotlight! He is singing T-Series’ latest music video Do char din, the video of which features Karan Kundra and Ruhi Singh. Rahul talks about his 11-year long journey since he became a household name journey, how he busies himself with shows and his dream to sing a duet with Alka Yagnik.

How did you bag T-Series’ new music video Do char din?

When Bhushanji told me he has asked Jeet Ganguli to compose a single for him, I responded with, “Great, I would love to sing for him.” When Jeetda gave me a voice note of the song, my instant reaction was, “This is it.” You get the intuition when you hear a great song. I saw the video recently -- it is fantastic.

Which is your favourite song composed by Jeet Ganguli?

My most favourite is the title track of Hamari Adhuri Kahani. The melody makes one cry. When this song was released, I had a break-up and felt the song was made just for me (laughs).

This music video brings you back into the spotlight. How would you describe your journey since you shot to fame in the first ‘Indian Idol’?

It has been 11 years since Indian Idol. When I had entered the show, I was just 17 years old. I didn’t know how things work. I have learnt over a period of time that you are not supposed to express everything that you think. My journey has been very exciting. I have always loved my work. Singing is not a 9-5 job; there is no better feeling then being on stage in front of the audience.

Do you often perform on stage?

I would like to proudly confess that I am blessed to be one of the busiest live performers. In fact, I am out of Mumbai for almost 20-25 days.

Would you like to try your hand at acting?

No, I am extremely content to sing.

Who would you like to sing a duet with?

I would love to sing a song with my favourite singer, Alka Yagnikji. I have never heard such a beautiful voice; I love and respect her. Whenever she meets me I reach out to hug her. Her body of work is incredible.
