Varun Dhawan is playing titular role in Badrinath Ki Dulhania, which stars Alia Bhatt once again after Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. However, it is not exactly a sequel to the previous film. The actor speaks about his film, equation with Alia, Govinda, Saroj Khan and his relationship.

How your character is going to be different in Badrinath than in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania?
It is very different, Humpty was from Punjab while Badri is from Jhansi, UP, and he is a son of Sahukar and kind of lukkha. It is a story of how in short distance people change as Alia Bhatt’s character is from Rajasthan and technically it is not too far from Jhansi. Still the culture, language changes but one thing never change and that is love and it brings all of us together.

Does sharing on and off screen equation with Alia help you?
There is a definitely a comfort level with her as a performer. I know I can do anything with her in the scene and she won’t feel bad. There is a trust between us and it is like a team work. She wants me to do well in the film and vice versa. I don’t want people to say that Varun is good in the film I want them to say both of them are good in the film.

Saroj Khan choreographed Tamma Tamma song and she is apparently upset for not inviting her for the song launch, what is your reaction on this?
She said that she is not happy because we did not go and show the song to her, like we did to Madhuri (Dixit) mam and Sanju (Sanjay Dutt) sir.  I want to apologise for it though it was not in my hand. We had only two days to launch the song and I know Madhuri mam and Sanju sir so I called them to show it. I wish someone from the production should have called her. It is her song eventually and not ours. I am sorry if she has felt bad and hopefully after this she doesn’t feel too bad about it.

Do you feel stars kids have it easy in the industry, like an actress recently commented on a show?
Earlier I would have not said it but no, it is not easy for any kid. A kid is a kid, it does not matter if he is a star kid or not. At the end of the day if the person is not doing good job then people should not go and watch his/her films. No one is putting a gun on audience’s head to tell them that go and watch the film because he is a star kid. There are so many star kids who have not done well. So those who are doing well it is unfair to say that they are doing well because they are star kids.

How are you going deal with comparisons between you and Salman Khan in Judwaa 2
There is a big generation who has not seen Judwaa, who are under 20, for them it is a new film. It is completely a new take on it. Comparison is a part and parcel but I am not scared of it. I cannot help it. If i have agreed to do the film then I have to take it head on. I have to do my own part and take on those characters. I have to play my character according to my calibre. I have worked really hard for it. Hopefully people will like it. There is a pressure on me because it is David Dhawan’s one of the best films. I just remember watching the film and loving it. I loved Tan Tana Tan and Ouchi Hai Building and luckily we have these two songs in our film also.

People say that your dialect in this film is similar to Govinda; however he recently said that David Dhawan did not help him when his career was going through a bad phase, so what is your take on it?
As far as similarities are concern I do my own brand of comedy. But I have grown up watching his films so sometimes it comes out naturally somewhere. About his comment on my father, I would not like to comment on it, because he is someone who is very senior to me and very close to me. I don’t think I need to speak about it publicly. If it has to be discussed then I will do it personally.

Why do you shy away from media when it comes to your relationship?
I don’t like talking about it because every section of media will not quote you the way you want them to be quoted. Probably some of them will write it honestly. If there is no way to safeguard what I say that is why I don’t talk about it.
