Rowdy romeo’s D-day

Veerey Ki Wedding is a romantic comedy that turns awkward when the families of lovers don’t get along.
Rowdy romeo’s D-day

Riding high on the success of their respective Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana and Fukrey Returns, Bollywood actors Kriti Kharbanda and Pulkit Samrat are now set to hit the screens together for the first time with Ashu Trikha’s Veerey Ki Wedding. Slated for a March 2 release, the rom-com has been extensively shot in Delhi NCR, and also has Jimmy Shergill playing Pulkit’s elder brother.

The flick revolves around two families that don’t get along and a complicated chemistry between the lead couple. And a hot-headed elder brother, despite best intentions, does little to improve the situation.
Kriti, who will be seen playing a bride once again, says, “I feel I have become an expert bride now. I used to spend a lot of time in front of the mirror to get ready. More than me, I think my stylist had a hard time.”

Revealing that he was not the first one to be roped in, Pulkit says, “Trust me, I was the last person to be selected for the movie. The whole thing was finalised within four days. The movie has beautiful songs and a Delhi feel, so I couldn’t say no.” Pulkit, who belongs to Delhi, is playing the role of a rowdy, do-gooder guy, Veer, in the movie. About his character, Kriti says, “He is a person who invites trouble for no reason.” Unlike his earlier projects, the actor will be seen performing many action sequences. “Abbas Bhai was responsible for the action in the movie. I learned a lot from him. His sequences are very accurate and real, and have a strong street action element,” says Pulkit.

Jimmy Shergill is no new face for the aggressive and macho avatar. Nevertheless, his role in the movie brings back to mind his iconic character of Raja Awasthi from Tanu Weds Manu. The actor, however, clarifies that the two characters are very different. “It is a comedy of errors,” says Jimmy. “It was always supposed to be a fun film with several light-hearted moments.”

Giving an idea about the flick, Kriti says, “This is the story of Veer and Geet. It has no message as such, but it is a total entertainer. Many times, making people laugh is a good thing.” The three share a wonderful chemistry and had a lot of fun on the sets. Interestingly, Jimmy and Kriti have worked together earlier. “Not many people know that a few years ago we shot an ad. It felt so good on reuniting with him on sets. I think he is a fantastic actor, and it’s an honour working with him.”

Jimmy, too, is all praises for Kriti, whom he describes as “extremely hard-working, talented and fun to be around.” Co-actor Pulkit says, “Working with Kriti was an awesome experience. She is a peerless
actor and we enjoy a wonderful chemistry.” In a craft as dynamic as acting, exploring new dimensions is crucial. “I don’t want to keep myself within boundaries. Given a chance, I would also like to do negative roles and period films. Working with directors like Sriram Raghavan is one of my dreams,” says Kriti.

Pulkit, whose Fukrey sequel bagged super returns on the box office, finds the severest critics rather close by. “My near and dear ones—parents, brothers, and friends—are my biggest critics. They don’t mince words and never shy away from giving a scathing critique.” Pulkit, who will soon be seen in Richa Chadha and Sharman Joshi starrer 3 Storeys, says he would love to be a part of any Salman Khan film. “I don’t regret missing out on anything as whatever I have done, has taken me ahead,” he adds.

Kriti’s will be spotted alongside veteran actor Dharmendra and his sons Sunny and Bobby in this year’s one of the most anticipated movies, Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se. While Jimmy has films such as Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3 and Happy Bhaag Jayegi Returns set to release this year. Release date: March 2
