Making waves through regional cinema

Though she started off with a Mollywood film, she slowly paved her way into Tamil and Hindi cinema. With Bollywood films such as Wazir, Bhoomi and Padmaavat to her credit, Aditi Rao Hydari has proved her mettle every time. And the talented actor has now entered the world of Telugu cinema with her latest film Sammohanam.

Helmed by the National Award winning director Mohan Krishna Indraganti, the movie is a coming-of-age love story with elements of comedy, family relationship and emotional drama.
The Hyderabad girl loved the script so much that she made sure that she took out time to do the film. “I really wanted to do it and feel happy that I managed to do so.”

While Aditi’s character in the film is Sameera, an actor, the male lead is being played by Sudheer Babu, who finds the cinema world a horrible place but he eventually ends up falling in love with Sameera.
Talking about the new beginning, Aditi says, “I am very thankful to Mohan Sir because he thought that I would be apt to play the role, and for writing such a beautiful script. The character I play is very eager to learn and do well. And, she is in cinema because she loves it and wants to be a good actor.”
It is very rare that an actor agrees to do the dubbing for the movie herself. But Aditi gave it a shot by dubbing for some of the sequences. “Somewhere, I was determined to dub for myself. I believe it’s more authentic,” she says.

Praising her co-actor, Aditi says, “It was an amazing experience working with Sudheer Babu on the sets. He’s usually quiet but on camera he’s very alive. He’s natural and effortless.” Sammohanam was extensively shot in Hyderabad and in some scenic locations of Manali. “Despite the tough treks to shooting locations, the team had a good time,” says the actor, who was last seen in Hindi film Daas Dev.

Calling herself a director’s actor, she says, “It doesn’t mean that I imitate the director or that director shows me what exactly to do. I am a director’s actor because I surrender myself completely and believe in their vision.” On the work front, she’s busy shooting for her next Tamil film Chekka Chivantha.
