The casting crew of film Neer Dose has struck big, having roped in actress Suman Ranganathan to play an important role. Earlier, Kannada actress Bhavana was supposed to reprise the role but due to some date clashes, she had to opt out.

Suman had earlier worked with director Vijay Prasad in Sidlingu, and her act was very much appreciated. Hoping to repeat her splendid performance under the director, Suman has taken up the challenging role of portraying a Bharatanatyam dancer.

Shunning rumour mills agog with news that she is playing the role of a club dancer, she said, “I play a Bharatanatyam dancer coming from a middle class background. I play the character of Sharada Mani in the film,” said Suman, who added that there are four important characters in the film played by Ramya, Jaggesh, Dattatreya and herself. “In the film, Ramya runs a Xerox shop and is unmarried. Her father keeps looking for a groom and then Jaggesh makes an entry. The meeting point of all the people is Neer Dose, which runs through lot of comedy, romance, and emotions,” explained Suman.

Like her previous films, Suman wants to do justice to the role of a Bharatanatyam dancer. “I started shooting from Tuesday and my first shot was at a graveyard, with Jaggesh. The character of Sharada is fearless and has the same expression whether happy or sad. So I felt it was quite challenging,” said Suman.

The actress, who is popularly known for her unique roles in films, said that it is the instinct that she goes by. “The moment I listen to the script, I do not usually think about the length. I usually go by the role and I choose it on purpose. Take the example of my last film, Mynaa where I had to play a police officer’s character sans make up. I was quite upbeat about the role,” said Suman.

Suman, who has been part of special songs in many films, is slowly trying to move away from glamour. “I am now concentrating on some meaningful roles. Of course, I do consider glamour to be meaningful when my body language is convincing and at the same time it is not vulgar,” said the actress, who is currently focusing on Neer Dose.

“My Tamil film along with Ajith, which is  directed by Vishnuvardhan is almost over. Now I am on the sets of Vijay Prasad’s film. I have two more scripts, which I have to hear. Only then I can decide as to what is next from me,” she said.
