While this week saw only Kannada films screened in Gandhinagar, Sandalwood films are gaining ground in the US, evidenced by Rangitaranga’s success, which has become the biggest Kannada hit of all time overseas and the first Kannada film to complete 50 days in the country. The film has made `2.1 crore and is still running to packed houses. For the first time, the film will be screened in Sweden, Stuttgart, Belgium, Zurich, Hong Kong and Malaysia. The film is under censor scrutiny for Middle East and the dates will be announced soon.
Another film in line is Uppi 2, which has earned `26 lakh in the US and is on its way to create a few records. Mr and Mrs Ramachari also made good money overseas.
