Director Pavan Wadeyar promises that his next, Nataraja Service will be   capable of captivating the audience

For director Pavan Wadeyar, filmmaking is all about creating a certain sense of realism, dignity and creativity while balancing them with an endeavour founded on trust, practical emotions and fervency in spirit. The five-film old director, who burst into cinematic excellence with his 2011 film Govindaya Namaha, launching comedian Komal as lead actor, is following his beliefs for his upcoming film, Nataraja Service too.

Starring Sharan, also a comedian turned actor, and actress Mayuri, the director asserts that his stories are governed not by stardom but by the script. “Whether it is a star doing my film or a newcomer, the strength lies in the character. Since I am a writer and director, there are a lot of things penned down by me in terms of my feelings. So in my vision, it is the ‘actor who reflects the director’. In that way, one can see a change in Sharan’s performance in Nataraja Service,” he says.

Pavan tells us that the characterisation of the hero and heroine is the biggest highlight of Nataraja Service which religiously follows the screenplay, enhancing the experience through dialogues. “Though Sharan and Mayuri elevate their characters in their own mannerisms, the film with a road trip theme is packaged as a total entertainer,” he informs.

Not wanting to repeat the typical locations, Pavan chose to shoot at Dandeli, Yellapura and few other new places apart from Bengaluru. But according to him, the challenge was to keep the momentum going while weaving the story only around the hero and heroine. “A director cannot just create characters but need to justify them too and end it in a perfect way otherwise it looks unfinished. That’s why I concentrate on limited characters and through them I try to entertain,” he says.

This film is presented by Puneeth Rajkumar and Pavan informs that the star agreed because he is a well wisher of producer NS Rajkumar, Sharan and himself. “There is some kind of power in the team with his presentation. And he is quick at grasping the look and feel immediately. I had told him the oneliner of Nataraja Service when I was working with him for Rana Vikrama. Yash is the other actor with whom I have shared this story, and he too thought it was a good subject,” he says.

While he predicts that Mayuri’s dedication towards work is extraordinary, she has all qualities of climbing the ladder. “I am sure she will be very busy after
Nataraja Service. As for Sharan, he has been an entertainer throughout, but this film will give him a tag of an innocent lover boy,” he notes.

Evidently, Pavan is one director who does not follow the herd and treads his own route with his unique style of direction.

“I can never give a dialogue and scene to the hero and ask him to emote in his style. I expect them to follow the character the way I would have imagined him or her while writing the script. If that doesn’t reflect in front of the camera, I feel that my performance as a writer has failed. Thankfully, actors whom I have worked with till date have understood my pulse and worked accordingly,” he says.

The director signs off saying “Forget about ` 500 and ` 1000 notes. Just grab ` 100 and watch Nataraja Service.”
