Actress Samyuktha Hegde is known to face challenges head on and push boundaries, unwilling as she is to settle into a ‘typical’ heroine’s role on silver screen. This good dancer has, in her second film, which is Kaleej Kumar directed by Santhosh,  flexed her muscles and thrown punches for an action sequence.

Today is the actress’ birthday and the filmmakers have decided to reveal a few stunt sequences in which Samyuktha is shown facing the villain. The movie’s team says that this is one of the bigger surprises from the actress in Kaalej Kumar.

Ask the actress about her novel attempt and she surprises us by saying that she has had similar fights in real life too. “I have done fight sequences for the film and I could do it realistically because I have had such kind of fights in real life as well,” she says. “I have hit people, so doing the same thing on-screen was not new to me at all... My mother actually compliments me, even calling me a fighter cock often, but then she is confident that I can take care of myself.”

Samyuktha says the best person to protect you is yourself. “If you know how to escape from a bad situation, and protect yourself, I don’t think there is a bigger or a better person than yourself to save you,” she says. “In this industry, you are always alone, travelling to different locations.

The first lesson to learn is in self-defence, which is what I have always believed, even before entering the film industry,” she says.

Kaalej Kumar, made under MR Pictures and produced by L Padmanabh, features Vicky in the lead with Ravi Shankar and Shruthi essaying pivotal characters. The film’s shoot, which had a schedule of 54 days, was completed on Saturday and the post production work is on. Arjun Janya has composed the film’s music and cinematographer is by T Alagan.
