BENGALURU: City Express had earlier reported, that Ishan hopes to be part of Pichaikkaran remake. The actor had been won over by the hero’s character, played by Vijay Antony, in the 2016 film that is set around a person’s devotion to his mother. We now hear that Ishan’s wish is likely to be fulfilled by Dwarakish Pictures, who hold the rights for the film. The production house is considering bringing the actor on board.

We spoke to Yogi who confirmed the news and said that it will the next production to be made under Dwarakish Pictures. It will be  launched on his father’s (Dwarakish’s) birthday on August 19. Before the work on it begins, Ishan will have to enroll for a workshop.

Pichaikkaran will be Dwarakish Pictures’ 51st film

The production house Dwarakish Pictures has brought out 50 films so far, including originals and remakes. Yogi who later took the responsibility from her father invested in films such as Datta, Apthamitra, Vishnuvardhana, Charulatha, Aatagara and the latest Chowka, and all have seen a successful 100-day run or a run higher than any average films. What does a producer look for, when he or she decides to do a remake? Yogi says that he knew he had a winner, especially when many were vying for it. “You may not believe it, but the minute I had the remake rights of Pichaikkaran, there were at least 15 producers asking me for the rights,” he says. “Probably, it is the script. The film that earned ` 20 crore in Tamil and ` 25 crore in Telugu... it has a moving subject. So I decided to invest in the film.”

Remake is not a taboo

Spreading a social message or promoting a culture is not copying, says Yogi. “If I remember right, Ramayana and Mahabharatha were the first tales to be told through cinema... these were written in Sanskrit and later translated into many languages. Even real-life incidents are retold through characters. Remake is not taboo. Any good story that needs to be told over and over again can be told in different languages and can cater to every audience. Moreover I adapt movies and not remake them,” he says.

Why Ishan?

Yogi says that he did think of working with a big star but decided to go with Ishan because he is a fresh new face. “I wanted to make this film with a big star, but then I was given another opinion that such a film will work with an actor who is just one or two films old,” says Yogi. “Ishan was also keen on doing the film and we decided to bring him on board.”

Chaitanya is the best for Ishan

The producer says that it works well with director KM Chaitanya. “I am comfortable with him, whether it is making original movies or remakes,” says Yogi. “He is a sensible director and very good human being. As friends, our thoughts and ideas sync. Chaitanya does the perfect job of adapting a movie, he knows how to bring in the local elements. I also find Tarun Sudhir, Nanda Kishore Anil and Yoganand Muddanna (who is now directing a Sharan’s film) easy to work with. But, for when it comes to handling Ishan, I think only Chaitanya can do justice to it. He comes from a family of writers and thinkers, and that is an added advantage.”
