The new ‘Cocktail’ party

Director Arunkumar is now planning a new film named ‘Ee Adutha Kalathu’, with Indrajit and Anup Menon in the lead.

KOCHI: After the much-appreciated ‘Cocktail,’ editor-turned-director Arunkumar is coming up with his new movie. Titled ‘Ee Adutha Kalathu...’, the movie - expected to be a mixed genre - will have Indrajith, Anup Menon, Fahad Fazil and Murali Gopi in lead roles.

“I would like to call the movie a thriller which blends love, thrill and the value of relationships. It will be like a roller-coaster ride, where what meets you is not what you expect. It will be like an adrenalin-inducing fun ride,” says Arunkumar. The movie will be produced by Raju Malliath under the banner Ragam Movies - the producers of vintage hits like ‘Sree Krishna Parunthu’ and ‘Namukku Parkkan Munthirithoppukal.’

About the ongoing transition phase of the Malayalam cinema following the success of ‘Cocktail,’ Arun said that he was happy to have initiated such a telling change. “The movie ‘Cocktail’ was a harbinger for many directors to experiment with the narratives, themes and actors. The successes of ‘Cocktail,’ ‘Traffic’ and ‘Salt n Pepper’ have proved that even without many popular stars or superstars, the audience can be attracted to the theatres,” says Arun.

Debutante Taanu Ghosh and Mydhili will be the heroines. Actors, including Lena, Jagathy Sreekumar, Suraaj Venjarammood, Dinesh, Byju and Manikantan, are also in the star cast.

Arun said that the narrative of ‘Ee Adutha Kalathu...’ will be like a breeze that blows through the minds of the characters. “It proves that ordinary lives are not ordinary at all. The film travels to the mysterious underbelly of the city and the hidden fears and hopes of those who unknowingly get caught up in the ride. The familiar becomes strange and the strange familiar,” adds Arun.

The film’s script is penned by Murali Gopi. Gopi Sundar will render music to the lyrics penned by Rafeek Ahammed. Shahnad Jalal handles the camera. The shoot of the movie is likely to begin by September. Thiruvananthapuram will be the major location.
