Taking a reality check

An ad film maker, an ex-model, a boy going for an interview, a college girl, an auto driver and a string of incidents that happened in their lives in four hours. Set against the backdrop of bustling Kochi and Chennai, Prashanth Murali’s debut directorial venture Paisa Paisa is a multi-narrative thriller showing how money can affect the lives of people. “At times there arises situations when we are unable to manage even meagrest amounts of money. Paisa Paisa portrays how our dear and near ones change colours when it comes to money matters,” says Prashanth, who has been an assistant of V K Prakash.

All set to hit theatres this Friday, Paisa Paisa, a  realistic thriller, has everything from romance and fun to suspense and unexpected climax. Indrajith and Aju Varghese play the leads along with Mamtha Mohandas. The script for the movie is jointly penned by the director and Rajesh Verma.

The protagonists of the movie Kishore and Balu, played by Indrajith and Aju, are close friends. “The strory happens on one particular day. Balu who goes to Chennai to attend an interview falls into a trap in the few minutes he goes out of the call centre office to make a phone call. Meanwhile Kishore, who is in Kochi, has an equally crucial day. His wife Surya, played by Mamtha Mohandas is returning to his life as the couple has been living separate for some time,” he says.

The twist in the movie occurs on two instances, creating a sort of twin climax. “Kishore encounters a lot of  hitches while he tries to raise the money to rescue his friend who is trapped in Chennai. It is this struggle that forms the crux of the story. In this chase he even ends up doing a crime. Though the doubt creeps up whether Kishore will be successful in arranging the amount, the actual climax stands aloof from this crisis,” adds the director

And how challenging was a multi-narrative thriller for a debutatnt? “It was tedious. But these days they make the first choice of our viewers apart from family-oriented and romantic themes,” says Prashanth.

The model-turned-actress Amrutha Patki has featured in the promotional song of the movie. Sandhya, Daniel Balaji, Risabava, Sasi Kalinga, Sunil Sugatha, Jojo, Anoop Chandran, Aparna Nair, and Apoorva are also part of the cast. Eby Selvin, a newcomer, has scored the music for Paisa Paisa which is produced under the banner of Celebs and Red Carpet.
