An Emotional Game

Appavum Veenjum is about how relations get affected when emotions spiral out of control

Every relation is bound with multiple emotions that easily gets switched over from one level to another. Appavum Veenjum (Body and Blood) is a cinematic attempt to portray the complications that arise when there is  a fluctuation in these emotions, says Viswan, director of the movie.

The movie, a musical thriller, is being narrated through the life of three  central characters.

Jude, played by Sunny Wayne, is a vocalist in a music band based in Goa.

“The movie starts with his journey from Goa to a high range in Kerala. He is on a vacation to spend some days in the misty landscape giving a break to his busy routine. It is during his days at a bar hotel there that he meets  Fernandez who is addicted to the songs of ‘Beatles’,” says Viswan.

Prathap Pothen appears as Fernandez. “Fernandez, a tea estate manager, is an eccentric person. He befriends Jude, thanks to their common love for music.

That friendship forces Fernandez to invite Jude to his cottage where he  lives with his wife Merlin,” the director says. Remya Krishnan will be back in Malayalam playing Merlin, who leads a detached life.

“Merlin is a very detached person. But, the arrival of Jude makes a big   impact on her life and family,” says Viswan adding that music plays an  important role in the film.

“Music is an essential element in this film. It contributes more to a   situation than dialogues. Both the songs and background score are very   important, just like dialogues. Certain scenes have been treated only with  music without dialogues,” he says.

Ouseppachan has composed the score and songs of Appavum Veenjum.

About the cast, Viswan says that he was insistent on casting them. “I took a huge gap of five years after my last movie ‘Doctor Patient’ which didn’t do well in the box office. It was during that gap that I started   working on this script. Ramya was the first option for Merlin as the character demanded someone with upper-class elegance. It was later that  Prathap and Sunny were cast. Though none of them are crowd-pulling faces, I was sure that they were apt for the roles as they are good actors. Luckily, I got producers who supported my decision,” says Viswan. The movie is produced by Shine Madackal, Benny Mundackal and T C Babu Thottupuram under the banner of M T M Production House.

Venugopal cranks the camera and Appavum Veenjum will see award winning editor B Lenin back after a hiatus in Malayalam film industry. The movie will hit screens this Friday.
