Rini Ipe Maatummel is no business magnet, but a millionaire’s confidant. Lonappan, his boss, owns a huge empire but can’t function without his sidekick. Revolving around the merry duo is Jose Thomas’ latest outing - Swarna Kaduva starring Biju Menon in the lead. Scenarist Babu Janardhan says the film will be a full-on laugh riot knit around some uproarious situations. “The subject it deals with is not silly, but the narrative has a humorous vein,” he says.

Lonappan, played by Innocent, has a pretty mistress tucked away in Coimbatore. On the way back after a rendezvous, his car hits someone and Swarna Kaduva is all about the hullabaloo that follows. “The film chronicles how he, along with his man Friday, tries to hush up the hit-and-run case,” he says. While Poojitha Menon steps into the role of the lead lady, Suresh Krishna plays a reformed goon, who now leads a pious life with his wife. Iniya, Sudheer Karamana, Anju Aravind and Kottayam Nazeer are also part of the cast.

Swarna Kaduva is set at a time before the bar scam and the film also touches upon the political ruckus it triggered. “There were a lot of middlemen who got trapped in the whole affair. Though the film is basically a comedy, it is inspired from current events.” Rini’s father had a jewellery, but then he falls on hard times and loses it. “Lonappan is also into gold business, so all the ploys involved in the trade are part of the storyline. Hence the name Swarna Kadauva,” he explains.

Though Rini appears as a loyal assistant, he is a master manipulator in real. Babu says the USP of the film will be its hero, a character leagues apart from Biju Menon’s usual funny outings. “Rini Ipe Maatummel will tickle your funny bone, at the same time he is not your typical hero material. He is a man with shades of grey and I think Rini will be one of the best characters in Biju Menon’s filmography. He is amusing and villainous at the same time,” he says. Swarna Kadauva, produced by Job G Oommen, will hit the screens this weekend.
