‘Dileep and his character Ramanunni MLA share a lot of similarities’

‘Dileep and his character Ramanunni MLA share a lot of similarities’

Dileep’s ambitious project Ramaleela will have him playing a dedicated politician and director Arun Gopy thinks the actor fits the part to a T.

“Dileep shares a lot of similarities with Ramanunni. When we were sketching the part of Ramanunni, a very sincere and honest politician, from a Communist  background, we could see that Dileep could do justice to the role. And, he has done it to perfection,” says the director.

The movie is about how Ramanunni, a service-minded politician, finds himself at the receiving end. “Dileep plays a genuine character, but he is a victim of shrewd political gimmicks. A certain incident causes him to lose his MLA position. The story is about how  he is forced to strike back,” says Arun.

The director claims that Ramaleela is not a quintessential Dileep movie. “There are rumours that this is a mass entertainer. Of course, there are elements that will appeal to the masses but, overall, Ramaleela is a thriller. It is all about today’s political scenario and is made in a pacy way,” he adds.

Tamil actor Radhika Sarathkumar will play Dileep’s mother, Sakhavu Ragini, a woman with a strong political background. “The sequence between the mother and son is very interesting,” says the director. The first look, shot in the backdrop of a village, was released by Tamil director Gautham Menon. The movie also has Mukesh, Vijayaraghavan, Lena and Prayaga Martin in significant roles.

“In fact, Vijayaraghavan has done a strong character in the movie. He plays Ambady Mohanan, a politician,” says Arun.
