Yesudas slams selfie culture

Veteran singer Yesudas has landed himself in trouble after making a statement to a Malayalam daily. He said, “boys and girls rubbing shoulders to take selfies is not ‘culturally’ right.” This has irked a lot of people. Stating that he had no issue posing for photos, he said he wasn’t comfortable with selfies, which involved ‘physical contact’. He added, “Before 80s, women never used to come up and ask for clicking pictures. There was a certain modesty and respectability about their manner that showcased ‘dignity’ and ‘etiquette’. He added that he wasn’t ‘finding faults’ but ‘stating the facts’. This isn’t the first time he has run into criticisms. In 2014, he took a dig at women for wearing jeans. “What should be covered must be covered. Women must not ‘trouble others’ by wearing jeans.”
