Having predominantly worked in Tamil industry so far, Shrushti Dange is thrilled to kick off the New Year with Malayalam film 1971: Beyond Borders, which marks her debut in the industry. She will be sharing screen space with Mohanlal and Allu Sirish in this Major Ravi-directed war drama. “Ravi sir contacted me last October and was very much interested to cast me.

I don’t know what happened but the talks didn’t move forward and I thought he changed his mind. Luckily, he contacted me again recently and signed me on,” Srushti told CE. She has replaced Nikki Galrani, who was also considered but had to opt out because she couldn’t adjust her dates.

Talking about her role, she said, “I play a very innocent character. Ravi sir signed me because he believes I have an innocent face. Although this is a war film, it features a small love track and I’m part of it.

My character starts and ends with a love letter.” Srushti, who plays Sirish’s love interest in the film, doesn’t believe expressing love through letters is passé.

“Letters make the whole purpose of expressing very personal and intimate.” She is also excited about her look in the film as it will go with the era the story is set in. “It’s the 70’s and my look will be unlike anything I have sported so far.”

Having already begun shooting in Kochi, Srushti is having a ball on the sets. “It’s like moving from one family (Tamil industry) to another. It’s with such warmth I have been received by the team.
