Rahman, Neena Gupta set to headline Mal Hotstar web series '1000+ Babies'
Disney+ Hotstar is leading the way for OTT giants who have lately been showing interest in the Malayalam industry. The platform’s third Malayalam series, titled 1000+ Babies, was launched on Monday.
It stars Bollywood actor Neena Gupta and Rahman as the leads. The show is directed by Najeem Koya, who made his directorial debut in 2018 with Kaly. He has also co-written films like 2 Countries and Sherlock Toms.
1000+ Babies, produced by August Cinemas, is scripted by directors Najeem and Arouz Irfaan. It will be a 210-minute-long series released in multiple episodes. Though the series will be shot in Malayalam, it will be out in various languages.
Meanwhile, Disney+ Hotstar’s maiden Malayalam web series Kerala Crime Files is gearing up for its premiere in June. Directed by Ahammed Khabeer of June and Madhuram-fame, the thriller show has Aju Varghese and Lal as the leads.
The streamer is also backing another Malayalam series, which stars Sunny Wayne and Nikhila Vimal. It is directed by debutant Praveen Chandran and scripted by Deepu Pradeep. Produced by E4 Entertainment, the yet-to-be-titled comedy series is currently in the post-production stage.
