Subdued yet Super Day for Rajini's fans

Some people trek up Sabarimala. Some people trudge along to Velankanni. But for hundreds of Rajinikanth fans, going to his house in Poes Garden on 12/12 every year, hits the spot. After a high octane birthday function hosted at the YMCA grounds last year where the Superstar made a rare appearance, this year is bound to be a subdued celebration, “We have heard that Thalaivar does not want any fanfare and is going to Bangalore to meet his friends. We will still go to his house and meet Anni,” said Ravi G, who heads a fan club in Saidapet.

Though the buzz in the run up to Rajini’s birthday is nothing compared to what it was last year when Sivaji 3D released, fans will still be able to savour the odd treat - Albert Theatre, which has profited off the actor’s best movies in the last few decades, has cancelled their regular movie shows for the day, “They will be screening Murattu Kaalai, Pokkiri Raja, Paayum Puli and Manithan for Superstar Rajinikanth’s birthday,” tweeted AVM Productions about the gala day.

Even as there is talk of Rajini signing on a film with K V Anand, as soon as he completed Anegan with Dhanush in 2014, fans admitted to being disappointed that Kochadaiiyaan’s audio hadn’t released on Thursday, “We had made grand plans to celebrate the audio launch, but it is all gone now. The more we wait, the better he gives us, so we are patient,” said Vinodh K, an ardent Rajini fan. He’s not the only one, is he?
