Actor Ganja Karuppu has now turned producer under his banner Tharun Kaanth Film Factory. What’s more, he is also doing a role as the hero’s father in his film titled Velmurugan Borewells.

Speaking to City Express, Ganja Karuppu says, “We launched the film a few weeks ago. Srikanth Deva has given us one song so far. We will soon be going for the shooting to Sivaganga district.” While Angadi Theru Mahesh plays the hero, Aarushi of Azhagan Azhagi fame, is his love interest. The hunt is on for a suitable pair for Ganja Karuppu.

The film, directed by MP Gopi of Malayan fame, is about a man whose new bride wants him to marry off and settle her five sisters first, only after which would she establish marital relations with him. The hapless bridegroom played by Ganja Karuppu, the owner of a borewell company, is forced to start using his borewell lorry to dig borewells and earn money to fulfil his bride’s conditions. Mahesh plays the  borewell lorry driver.

Though the movie is a laugh riot with loads of romance and sentiment, Ganja Karuppu has decided to put the borewell lorry he bought for the film to good use. Says  he, “We have to shoot scenes where a borewell is being dug. So I decided to really dig borewells in parched areas and help villagers, and use that footage in the film. That way, we would serve a double purpose.” He has adopted 10 villages where the borewells will be dug. This includes a school in Kattanipetti village, and several others villages in Sivaganga district.

While IT Arasan plays Aarushi’s father, Theepetti Ganesan, Black Pandi, Vengal Rao, Singamuthu and Manobala form the rest  of the cast. Ask him what prompted him to turn to production and Ganja Karuppu says, “My wife is a doctor and it was she who encouraged me to bravely take the plunge into production. I would like to give back a part of what I have earned, into cinema.”

The unit is planning to leave for the first schedule in the first week of April and complete the film in one straight schedule. The film will be shot in places like Kalaiyar Kovil, Maanamadurai, Melur and Naattarasankottai. Ganja Karuppu has also taken in his care the upkeep of 10 mentally challenged children in an ashram in Sivagangai area.
