He’s among the youngest music composers, with his current score of 48 movies, including those under production.
Now, GV Prakash is turning hero with Kalsan Movies’s Pencil, directed by newbie Mani Nagaraj. Having already turned producer with Madha Yaanai Kootam, it seems Prakash has lots on his platter. In a chat, he tells CE why he’s loving every moment of it.
He’s just undergone a painful skin peel treatment to turn a shade lighter for the cameras. He lost six kilos in preparation for his debut role as a school student in Pencil and sports a trendy new hair cut for the movie, for which he has been taking acting lessons for several weeks.
In every way, Prakash seems to be giving his new avatar full attention. Added to that are the travails of a first-time producer with Madha Yaanai Kootam. Doesn’t he feel the strain weighing on him? Prakash flashes a smile in reply, “Not at all. In fact, I’m really excited about it all. I love cinema and I want to expand my boundaries, be it music, acting or production. When you love something, you don’t feel any strain.”
Prakash plays a teenage school student in Pencil. Throwing light on how acting happened, he says, “I worked with Mani Nagaraj in ad jingles. He’s a former assistant to Gautham Vasudev Menon since 2007, and my very good friend. But several projects he tried directing, failed to take off. He came to me with this acting offer, since he needed a new face and felt his film would take off, if I were the hero. I gave it some thought and accepted the offer solely to help out a friend who is very talented.”
The icing on the cake is the script. Prakash says confidently. “It‘s going to be a revolutionary rom-com and thriller with a contemporary Gen Next theme. The editing, screenplay and story are all going to be striking. I’m excited about doing the music because it has scope for exploring Gen Next music,” he says. The title of Pencil is in line with the school kids’ theme and the shoot starts in December.
Prakash has already composed the songs. Sridivya of Varuthapadatha Valibar fame, is cast opposite him. Pizza-fame Gopi Amarnath cranks the camera, while newbie SP Ragavesh is the producer.
