I Had to Change My Body Language: Actor Nakul

With his movie Vallinam having received wide acclaim, actor Nakul is on a high. He played a basketball player in the movie, a role  that was quite different from his earlier ones. Now, Nakul is excited about his next film, Tamzhikku En OndraiAzhuthuvum which he calls TN1A in short. In a chat with CE, Nakul reveals more.

“The film is going to be a completely new genre for Tamil cinema a genre which hasn’t been tried before. It’s directed by Ram Prakash Rayappa, former assistant to Engeyum Eppodhum fame Saravanan,” says Nakul. Produced by VLS Rocks, the camera for TN1A will be handled by Deepak Padhy, who shot Pizza 2.  Shedding light on the project, Nakul says, “I play a boy called Vasanth. I had to change my body language completely for the role. I can’t reveal the details at this stage but what I can say is that I had to aquire new acting skills for the role, under the guidance of Ram Prakash.” The actor underwent a workshop with the co-actors of the movie, which has been shot mostly around Thirvottiyur.

Speaking about his producers, he says, “VLS Rocks made Naan Rajavaga Pogiren with me earlier and wanted to work again with me for this project.” The film has him paired with Aishwarya Dutta while Attakathi and Cuckoo fame Dinesh teams up with BinduMadhavi. Satheesh of Maan Karate fame, is part of the comedy track. Nakul adds, “The screenplay is something new and will keep you guessing about what comes next. Each scene will be a surprise. The movie is a mix of romance, suspense, thrill, action and comedy. It is difficult to categorise it under one genre.” While he’s reluctant to reveal more, he does add, “The title gives a clue to the storyline but even then it’s tough to guess more.”

Urvashi plays Nakul’s mother in the film. “There is so much to learn from her! She had us in splits with her jokes one minute and the next minute she was handling her shot with aplomb! She has immense knowledge in every field of cinema. We got along like a house on fire from day one itself, and I want to work with her again,” says Nakul.

Ram Prakash, for whom TN1A is the  debut project, has worked in the ad film industry for a few years before entering cinema.

TN1A has been shot under a tight schedule that began in December 2013. It is readying for a May release.
