'Mellisai is an Emotional Crime Thriller'

Director Ranjit Jeyakodi’s film, Mellisai, is back in the news. The teaser of the film, which features actors Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathri in the lead, has just been launched online.

Talking to City Express, a visibly excited director Ranjit said, “Yes, it has been sometime since we completed our film but it is only now that things are falling in place.” Sporting a happy smile, director Ranjith explained that he completed shooting the film in 60 days. “Out of which, shooting for 48 days was done at a stretch. The portions that had to be shot in the last 12 days were spread over a period of six months due to a number of reasons. However, all that has been sorted out now.”

Ranjit calls the film an emotional thriller. “Vijay Sethupathi plays a music director who is looking to bring out an album in the film. Gayathri plays a violin teacher. But the film is not about music. It is about a dangerous web that is spun around us without our knowledge. It is about a crime,” he added.

But why is the title about music, we ask. Replied Ranjit, “Because I wanted my film to have a sleek upper-class and posh look. Therefore, I chose this title and the roles. The story takes place in an urban setting. In fact, we shot the entire film in Chennai.”

Ranjit denies that the movie is based on a true story. “No, it is not based on one single incident. But you will be able to find several such incidents happening all around us. I cannot disclose the plot of the film, but when you watch Mellisai you will be able to relate to it.”  The film, which has music by Shyam C S, has five songs in all, says the director, “The songs have come out well.

We intend to launch the audio of the film next month. And a month from the audio launch, we will be releasing the film.”
