Netflix acquires Baahubali series for Rs 25.5 crores; to stream Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam versions

In a landmark deal, online video streaming giant Netflix has bought the rights for two of the biggest hits of Indian film history - 'Baahubali' and 'Baahubali 2: The Conclusion'.

In a landmark deal, online video streaming giant Netflix has bought the rights for two of the biggest hits of Indian film history - 'Baahubali' and 'Baahubali 2: The Conclusion'.

According to a report by Livemint, Netflix has acquired the movies for Rs 25.5 crore in total. Apart from the two SS Rajamouli directorial ventures, Netflix has also struck a deal to buy Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan starrers.

Netflix, which entered the Indian market 18 months ago, confirmed the news on their Twitter handle.

The cast of SS Rajamouli's 'Baahubali' includes Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah, Sathya Raj, Ramya Krishnan and Nasser.

While the first part, 'Baahubali: The Beginning' made on a budget of Rs 180 crore raked in over Rs 650 crore worldwide, the second was made with Rs 250 crore and pulled in over Rs 1500 crore, becoming the second highest grossing Indian movie ever worldwide.

Recently, Netflix had announced two new shows from India - 'Selection Day' based on novel by Aravind Adiga and 'Again', a supernatural series written by Marisha Mukherjee. Apart from these two, the streaming giant had already announced the adaptation of Vikram Chandra's popular novel 'Sacred Games' which will star Saif Ali Khan.
