The winners of First Clap - Season 1, a short film contest organised by Moviebuff, were announced at Sathyam cinemas yesterday. A star-studded guest list included Suriya, Vetrimaaran, PC Sreeram, Ezhil, and KV Anand.
With more than 250 entries, 17 were shortlisted by the judges. The final five films were selected through public voting via screenings at local theatres, as well as scores awarded by the panel of judges associated with the Tamil film industry. The selected theatres played the movies in 170 screens for five weeks during intermissions which amounted to a total of 23,800 shows.
The top five short films, which were all under three minutes each, were played at the event. From these, the winners were chosen by the chief guests who were also a part of the jury. Ival Azhagu by Vijay Ganapathy, App(a) Lock by Pradeep Ranganathan and Yennaga Sir Unga Sattam by Prabhu Jeyaram won the top three prizes, which also included cash awards and internships with 2D Entertainment. Season 2 is expected to be held across the country.
