Women Filmmakers Only

Women have made a mark in every possible sphere. Encouraging those women who have passion for filmmaking, Women Making Films is organising its first film festival.  Started by Chennai-based filmmaker Vaishnavi Sundar about a month ago, the online portal, www.wmfindia.com, hopes to bring women directors, cinematographers, editors and other artistes involved in bringing out cinema to the fore and give them representation. “Only five per cent of female filmmakers in the world are well represented. And within that, cinematographers, editors, sound designers and others are in a worse position,” says Vaishnavi. By joining the portal, women filmmakers can work towards addressing gender disparity in the business and create greater opportunities for one another, she explains. Anyone who identifies as a woman and has to her credit at least one film in which she worked as the head of one of its aspects can register with the portal and submit entries for the film festival.

Screenings will be held in Chennai, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, and Kolkata.  There is no upper age limit for those who wish to enrol. The last date for submitting entries for the film festival is August 26.  The festival will take place from September 1 to 15.
