‘No one forced me to be an actor’

In less than six months after making her debut in Tollywood, Anu Emmanuel became the toast of the town when news spread out that she’s going to be one of the lead actresses in Pawan Kalyan-Trivikram’s upcoming project, apart from Gautham Menon-Vikram’s spy thriller Dhruva Natchathiram. The actress had arrived in style, so to speak; however, in a dramatic turn of events, Anu had to opt out of Gautham Menon’s film shortly after her name was attached to the project.

“It’s quite unfortunate that I can’t be part of the film. I have two other films lined up this year and it had become quite tough to adjust the dates. Gautham Menon is one of my favourite directors and I hope to work with him soon,” Anu confesses.

After making a promising debut in Majnu in 2016, Anu had already made inroads in the industry with two more films to her credit – Kittu Unnadu Jagratha and Oxygen. And the fact that Trivikram Srinivas chose her for the film cemented her position in the industry as a talent to watch out for.  “I think it all started with Majnu. People could connect with my role in that film. And ever since, I’ve been getting good offers,” she avers, adding, “I’ve become a better person after turning an actor. I’m more patient now.”

While her long-delayed film Oxygen is expected to release later this summer,  Anu Emmanuel is eagerly awaiting the release of her next film Kittu Unnadu Jagratha – a comedy which has Raj Tarunas the lead. “I play a college girl in the film. It’s got a bit of everything – romance, comedy, suspense, drama. Raj Tarun and I bonded a lot over our love for dogs. He owns close to 20 pet dogs and for one of the scenes in the film, we shot with 10 of his own pet dogs!,” Anu signs off.
